Magical holiday moments in the Hintersee Enchanted Forest in Ramsau
Now, seriously: The origins and beauty of the enchanted forest in the mountaineering village of Ramsau are so unique that everyone is automatically enchanted. The Bavarian State Office for the Environment agrees, and has certified this beautiful spot as one of three natural highlights in the Berchtesgadener Land with the seal of approval "Bavaria's Most Beautiful Geotopes."
If that wasn't enough of an answer for you, here's a more detailed explanation: Several thousand years ago, approximately 15 million cubic meters of rock broke loose between Schärtenspitze and Steinberg in the Hochkalter massif. This rock plunged more than 1,000 meters into the valley. There, the rock piled up as boulders, damming the Ramsauer Ache to form the Hintersee. And tadaa, this rockfall created the impressive landscape of this forest.
The Magic Forest in Ramsau near Berchtesgaden stretches from the Marxenklamm Gorge to the Hintersee and is perfect for an easy hike with the whole family. There are also great places to stop for refreshments along the year-round hiking trail along the river.
