The landmark of Lake Königssee: The pilgrimage church of St. Bartholomä
You can reach the peninsula either via a multi-hour alpine hike or by boat from Schönau to the first stop, St. Bartholomä. The boat dock is easily accessible on foot from the Explorer Hotel ;) Here you can buy your ticket for the boat trip, and then you're ready to go.
You've probably seen a picture of St. Bartholomä in some photo calendar. The small pilgrimage church with its red turrets from the 17th century in front of the Watzmann's east face is THE landmark of Lake Königssee. Also worth seeing is the adjacent hunting lodge. Formerly used as a royal summer residence, it now houses a restaurant with a garden.
