Highlight in the Ötztal: the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road for racing cyclists, motorcycle enthusiasts, or simply by car.
The 60 km long pass road connects Obergurgl with Merano and climbs approximately 1,750 meters in altitude in 30 hairpin bends. Whether you're traveling by car, motorcycle, or bicycle, the ride on the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road is a true highlight. You'll enjoy numerous viewpoints, feel the changing vegetation, and breathe in the mountain air. At several stops along the road, various sculptures provide information about the region's history, culture, and economy.
The highest point of the pass is at 2,474 meters. A drive takes approximately 90 minutes. By bike, it depends on your fitness ;-) It's best to watch Simon Gegenheimer's video.
The Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road is also always part of the Ötztal Cycle Marathon in September.
Opening hours of the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road
Did you know that clearing snow from the Timmelsjoch is a very special challenge? Up here, there's up to 10 meters of snow, so clearing it can take between six and eight weeks, and the road is usually only open to traffic from the end of May. Depending on snowfall, the road closes to traffic again at the end of October or beginning of November.
Tolls range from €18 to €28. Cyclists travel free, but must have functioning lights on their bikes.
