Visit the Berchtesgaden Salt Mine and learn more about the lives of the miners
Here you'll not only learn fascinating facts about salt mining and the lives of the miners underground, but you can also experience a real adventure on the slide and during the boat trip on the Mirror Lake.
The mine train takes you 650 meters into the mountain to the Salt Cathedral, which is dedicated to Emperor Franz I of Austria. And now hold on tight: the first wooden slide plunges you 34 meters down, even deeper into the salt mine. To protect your clothing and ensure a smoother slide, you'll be given an overall before the tour.
Before reaching the Mirror Lake, a second wooden slide, 40 meters long, awaits you. Once you arrive at the Mirror Lake, the lowest point of the tour, a raft ride awaits you. The Mirror Lake gets its name from the reflection of the ceiling on the water's surface. The lake's salt content is roughly the same as that of the Dead Sea. Clothing in the Berchtesgaden Salt Mine: Very important: Dress warmly. The temperature underground is 12°C. This makes a visit to the Berchtesgaden Salt Mine not only suitable for bad weather, but also a refreshing excursion during your summer vacation ;) As mentioned above, you'll also receive an overall to protect your clothing.
