Visit the Berchtesgaden Salt Mine and learn more about the lives of the miners
Here, you'll not only learn exciting facts about salt mining and the lives of the miners underground, but you can also experience a real adventure on the slide and during the ride on the Mirror Lake.
The mine train takes you 650 meters into the mountain to the Salt Cathedral, dedicated to the then Emperor Franz I of Austria. And now hold on tight: the first wooden slide descends 34 meters, even deeper into the salt mine. To prevent damage to your clothing and to make sliding easier, you'll be given overalls before the tour.
Before you reach the Mirror Lake, a second 40-meter-long wooden slide awaits you. Once you reach the Mirror Lake, the lowest point of the tour, a raft ride awaits you. The Mirror Lake gets its name from the reflection of the ceiling on the water's surface. The lake's salt content is roughly as high as that of the Dead Sea.
Clothing in the Berchtesgaden Salt Mine
Very important: Dress warmly. The temperature underground is 12°. This makes a visit to the Berchtesgaden salt mine not only suitable for bad weather, but also as a refreshing excursion during your summer vacation ;) As mentioned above, you will also be given overalls to protect your clothing.
