Ebbs Rare Animals Zoo: Discover over 500 animals at the foot of the Zahmer Kaiser mountain range

Fancy a trip to the Kufstein Zoo to see the animals?

Then a trip to Ebbs is worthwhile. The Raritätenzoo (Rare Breeds Zoo) isn't a huge animal park, but a manageable, privately run zoo with a family atmosphere. Since 1991 , over 500 animals from around 70 different species have lived here at the foot of the Zahmer Kaiser mountain range.

Especially if you are traveling with kids or want to do something different between hiking, biking and mountain tours, the zoo is a relaxing excursion from the Explorer Hotel Bayrischzell.

This is what you can expect

1. Animals from all over the world: Among others, kangaroos, flamingos, Barbary macaques, ring-tailed lemurs, dwarf otters, various bird species and many other animal inhabitants live here.
2. Easily manageable even for younger children: You can navigate the entire grounds with a stroller. There's also a small playground and rest area at the far end of the zoo, near the Barbary macaques.
3. Take a break: You can get drinks, coffee, ice cream and small snacks at the kiosk near the entrance and exit. There is also a covered terrace.
4. Wagon rental: Handy when your legs get tired or you have a lot of stuff to carry. The rental fee is €2.00, plus a €5.00 deposit, of which you'll get €3.00 back upon return.
5. Accessible for visitors: The grounds are wheelchair accessible and the restrooms are equipped accordingly. The zoo recommends that visitors using non-motorized wheelchairs be accompanied by an attendant.

2. From the beginning of September to the end of October: Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm

5. Card payment: Accepted at the entrance. Cash is required in the zoo and at the kiosk.

From the Explorer Hotel Bayrischzell to the zoo

From the Explorer Hotel Bayrischzell, Ebbs is an easy side trip across the Austrian border. A car is the simplest option for this excursion.

When parking, please pay attention to the current signage: From 2026, only around 20 free parking spaces will be available directly on the street; a fee of €4.00 per car will be charged for part of the larger parking area. If the parking spaces at the zoo are full, you can also park for free in the town center of Ebbs – for example, at the underground parking garage by the town hall – and walk to the zoo from there.

The zoo is also accessible by public transport: From Kufstein train station, take bus line 4030 to the Ebbs Schulzentrum stop. From there, it's about 1.6 kilometers or a 20- to 25-minute walk. However, from Bayrischzell, this route involves several connections – so for a spontaneous trip, a car is much simpler.

Dog included?

Your dog is allowed in the zoo, but must be kept on a short leash . Since some animals roam freely on the grounds, you should also bring a muzzle as a precaution.
