Insider tip for stunning views of the Allgäu Alps
You don't have to walk far to enjoy a magnificent view of the Allgäu Alps. The Moorweiher is particularly impressive thanks to its numerous hiking trails and an educational trail with information panels.
It's best to park your car or bike at the Nebelhornbahn cable car or at the Oybelehalle in Oberstdorf. Alternatively, there are always a few parking spaces at the Loretto Chapels.
Then you cross the Mühlenbrücke bridge near the Nebelhorn valley station and follow the Moorbadweg path up to the Moorweiher. This is where the circular trail begins, which takes you along the edge of the moor. It doesn't matter which direction you take. Here, take a deep breath and enjoy the view from one of the benches, and of course, admire the moor plants.
If you still feel like it, you should definitely continue your hike to the Hofmannsruh viewpoint or over the Dienersberg towards the Trettach Valley. A visit to the nearby historic moor bath with moor water and Kneipp footbath is also worthwhile, especially in summer.
You can then return via the Mühlenbrücke (Mill Bridge) or take the direct descent to the Loretto Chapels.
PS: If you think the Moorweiher (Moor Pond) in Oberstdorf only impresses in winter with its dreamy winter landscape, you are very much mistaken. Curling regularly takes place here when the ice surface is frozen over.
