Visit to the impressive ice cave in Tyrol
A hike to the ice cave in the Hohe Salve holiday region is an exciting adventure for families with children, but also for all nature lovers vacationing in Tyrol. The entrance to the cave is at an altitude of around 1,520 m, and 122 steps lead you into the cave's interior. According to scientific research, some of the stalactites are up to 350,000 years old.
The moderately difficult Hundalm Ice Cave day hike leads from the Lettenbichl hiking car park via serpentines up to the Buchackeralm. Here, you can fortify yourself with regional dishes. Afterwards, you continue hiking to the entrance of the ice cave (duration 6 hours - 14.5 km).
The Hundalm Ice Cave is only open in spring and summer and can only be visited with a guide. A visit to the ice cave in Tyrol is particularly recommended in spring, as during these months nature creates the most bizarre ice shapes.
P.S. Please remember that you are in an ice cave – warm clothing would be a plus. :D
