The Mountain Farm Museum in Oberstdorf: Get to know farm life!

The former mountain farming village, now a listed monument, was inhabited until the end of the 19th century. Today, the idyllically situated, sun-baked wooden houses in the heart of the Allgäu Alps are known far beyond Oberstdorf and are a popular day trip destination. Gerstruben, with the Höfats in the background, is also one of the most popular photo motifs in the Allgäu. Cool #ExplorerMoments are guaranteed. The Berggasthof Gerstruben mountain inn's sunny terrace is worth a stop.
Location
From the Explorer Hotel Oberstdorf, it's about a 2-hour walk and about 50 minutes by bike. Check out our tour planner for directions :) To save yourself some walking, you can also park at the Nebelhornbahn cable car or at the Oybele Halle.
If you're on foot, a hiking trail leads from Oberstdorf along the Trettach River to the hamlet of Dietersberg. From there, continue along the Gerstruber Steige, climbing 150 meters to the village.
The second option is the more exciting Hölltobel, but this is only recommended in summer and only if you're sure-footed.
You can return via the Rautweg trail, which leads back to the Trettach Valley, or continue to Spielmannsau. A detour to Christlesee is also worthwhile.
Tip:
Sometimes there are guided tours of Gerstruben and the museum. It's best to check the current dates directly with the spa administration.
