During your summer vacation, you can relax on the shore and enjoy the view ;) But if you get bored, there are of course many leisure activities here that will provide you with plenty of action.
The Forggensee is the largest lake near the historic town of Füssen in the Allgäu region and, in terms of area, the largest reservoir in Germany. Compared to other lakes such as the Weissensee, Hopfensee, Altatsee, Alpsee, and Schwansee, it is significantly larger, with an area of 15.2 square kilometers. In fact, all of Füssen's lakes could fit into Lake Forggensee - it's truly enormous!
Water fun for all ages
From June 1 to October 15, Lake Forggensee offers a variety of leisure activities. Sailing, surfing, cycling, and hiking are on the program, with sailing courses, canoeing, and pedal boat rentals available for water sports fans. The bathing spots around the municipality of Rieden are particularly popular, for example the Dietringen bathing area or the Halbinsel bathing area with a view of Neuschwanstein Castle.
For the romantics among us, the Forggensee boat trip and pedal boating are an absolute must.
And don't forget: Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau Castles are worth a visit while you're here.
The lake is also worth a visit in winter.
In winter, when the Forggensee is drained, the past really comes to light. Here you can practically walk in the footsteps of the Romans anddiscover the remains of old buildings that once had to make way for the lake. Two sunken villages tell their stories on these tours through the empty lake. A unique opportunity to experience the past up close and discover hidden treasures!
