The Zillertal Valley is definitely worth a visit in autumn! Why? Because it offers the perfect blend of culture and nature. Enjoy the clear mountain air in the colorful Alps and experience the traditional festivals of the Zillertal mountain autumn, such as the Almabtrieb (cattle drive).
The best tips for the golden autumn in the Zillertal
#1 Make the most of the hiking season!
Colorful leaves, cool mountain air, and mild temperatures – the hiking season is far from over; it's just getting started! Literally, because most cable cars in the Zillertal Valley are still running until mid- to late October.
Our hiking tip: A sunrise hike to the Kellerjoch. Enjoy breathtaking views from this magnificent panoramic mountain in the Tux Alps. The perfect place to stop for a break during this hike is the Kellerjochhütte, which is open until October 13, 2024.
#2 The "B" in Herbst stands for Bike!
Rediscover your inner child and zoom through the rustling leaves! The Zillertal Cycle Path in Tyrol is ideal for relaxed cyclists. The path leads along the Ziller River from Mayrhofen past the Explorer Hotel Zillertal in Kaltenbach and all the way to Strass. Need more action? Then head to the Wiesenalm Single Trail! Look forward to over 5 kilometers of downhill fun and countless curves!
#3 Attention climbers!
Summer's over, and so is climbing season? No way! Depending on the snow conditions, you can clamber along the cool rocks until October or even longer. Via ferratas near the valley are particularly suitable for this. The Talbach Via Ferrata in the Zillertal is spectacular and ideal for autumn climbing. The two long rope bridges are especially popular with advanced via ferrata climbers. And when it rains heavily, you'll experience a roaring waterfall there.
