How about a little culture for a change? Since its opening in 2011, you can learn all about the history of the Bavarian royal family in the 16 exhibition rooms on two floors of the Museum of the Bavarian Kings at Lake Alpsee. The focus is on King Maximilian II and his son Ludwig II.
You can explore this museum in Hohenschwangau on your own or join a public tour. These take place every Wednesday and Sunday at 10:00 a.m. (Yes, you have to get up a little earlier). The meeting point is the museum's ticket office.
The Museum of the Bavarian Kings in Hohenschwangau is open daily (except September 30th, the Christmas holidays, and January 1st). You can purchase tickets either on site or easily online.
